MAKING BASKETS

Summer of 2017. Bolgatanga (Ghana)

In Bolgatanga they make baskets when there is no work to do in the fields. They buy the stems in the market, they dye them and they  weave them. They copy very accurately the original designs. They count many times the stems that they have to weave so the baskets will be perfectly rounded.

Every woman participates in the process, from the eldery ones to the chidren. Every one has her own task which is more suitable to her.

While they work, they do not stop talking.

A local organisation helps them to sell these baskets. They use the money they gain from the baskets to buy all the objects that they cannot get from the fields.

This collection are imprimaturas painted on wooden pannels of 110x110cm
